Clock for clock the i7 is faster, so that would probably make the actual CPU speed close to equal -- except the i7 has 4 cores.
Of course, that won't matter unless you use apps that take advantage of that. Almost everything I use does, so its great for me.
the new i9 that's coming out has 6 cores, and is faster than the i7 clock for clock(32nm).
