First.....KUDOS to Mike and the Webair team for seeing a need and trying to do something to help! Everyone in this thread made valid points, BUT, why is it a bad thing to want to help? The system may be flawed but this group of hosting companies is at least trying to do something. Please don't belittle them for at least doing something!!
Second...before anyone jumps to any conclusions, no, my company is not associated with this group....not that we wouldn't but we had already done something on our own when this venture came out so we respectfully passed. It doesn't mean we do not believe in the cause, it was simply an issue of timing.
Lastly, anyone that knows me knows that I like to donate to small charities....ones that have no overhead and 100% of the money donated goes straight to the source as opposed to salaries and fancy offices.......BUT....and this is a huge BUT.....in this case there is no better place to donate than the Red Cross. In a catastrophe of this magnitude it is difficult to get the aid to where it is needed...it takes people who know what they are doing and have done this before to try to streamline the process of getting food and other supplies to the people that need it most. A small charity would be totally lost. That is why, in this case, the Red Cross is your best bet to really make a difference!!!
Again, Mike.....NICE JOB!! I got mad respect for you, bro!!!
