Sorry, but I do not see what techimedia did wrong ....
First of all, if your sites are important , have your own backup locally , done as frequently as you deem required.
Secondly, if you intend to move and declare so , well ... do it . It is not for the host to decide if you did move or not.
On the other hand, if you were still paying ( acccount not delinquant ) , the host should have left all as is , up and running.
Note to self : reminder why you do not want new adult accounts
