Homes are given away with the hope that the new home owners will pay to have their lawn mowed and gutters cleaned, by maintenance companies that will give the previous home owners a kick back for bringing them the business.
Yes, they may get a lifetime of kick backs from these maintenance companies, but they lost the house.
This doesn't make sense in any business model you try to apply it to. You don't take your best product and give it all away.
