Do the college educated people perform better because of the college degree or because of their mental makeup? Since they went to college they already have certain traits that would more than likely make them successful with or without a degree (just like the successful uneducated people).

I'm saying that your argument of picking 10,000 from both groups "misses the point" because the 10,000 uneducated group will contain many people that wouldn't be successful even if they received a "free" college degree.
