My view is that university, more notably advanced degrees, refines your 'processes' and helps you 'mature' your decision-making, especially in business. Formal education helps you organize 'cluttered' environments and can, ultimately, help you maximize efficiency (individual, organizational, or otherwise). 'Formal education is a waste of money,' 'it doesn't teach you about real life,' etc... are lame excuses. I'm not saying that everyone on the planet needs to have a formal education to be successful or 'smart' or to be on the same 'social level' as those who do possess a degree. I just feel that you're at an advantage if you add certain amount of education to back your on-the-ground experience.
