I guess I would disagree. I think if tomorrow Obama went on TV and said he was spending 400 billion to develop a bunch of new military technologies that would help us better fight terrorism many people would not complain and many conservatives would feel this is a good step forward in helping to protect them and their neighbors. But if he said he was going to spend that 400 billion on making sure everyone who has no health insurance or is under-insured got health insurance those same people would be up in arms. Then numbers seems to show that their under-insured neighbors are 58 times more likely to die from having a lack of health insurance than they are from a terrorist attack. We will spend infinitely to protect from the terrorist, but not to help them get health insurance even though the lack of insurance is much more a risk to people.
