I'm a parent too and amazingly enough my kids seldom ever get spam...and never porn spam...see, I do this thing called parenting and I setup filters for their email addresses. It took me about 10 minutes.

I'm not defending sending spam to kids but I also don't see why parents don't take the time to protect their children on every level.

Suprisingly enough though, I only recieved one email from swoit and I have affiliate accounts with most everyone accused of selling email addresses to swoit. I have 30 or so email addresses too and still only recieved the one email from them.

FT, if I were you, I'd also be concerned about where your daughter's email address was acquired. If swoit merely bought a list of emails they might have assumed were good, adult opt-in emails and they weren't, well, they may have unknowingly bought the email address. I won't get into the ethical/moral discussions of buying email lists, but this is something I always stress to people buying email lists: be wary of who you buy your lists from.

In a realistic sense, swoit gains absolutely nothing from knowingly spamming your child. She doesn't have sites, traffic, a program, etc. therefore, they have nothing to gain (and a whole lot to lose) by knowingly spamming your child.

While I understand your anguish, I hope this also shows the importance of parental filtering and control over what your children are exposed to. I realize we can't protect children from everything, but we can help educate them. My children are too young for chatrooms at the moment, but once they get older and express an interest in it, you can bet I'll have every spyware tool I can find to monitor their useage, where they go and log chat conversations.
