Been using TC for years. I have a whole drive encrypted and it does it slow it down a little bit. I only really notice it when transferring a tonne of files or huge files. You can choose from a whole bunch of different algorithms (or combinations of algorithms) depending on how secure you want to be. Apart from that once you mount the drive it works just like a normal drive.
