Beat everyone to market?

Smart phones are nothing new. I had a Blackberry circa 2002. I know others who had Palm powered Sprint phones prior to that.
The "new smartphone market"? And this is defined by what? I'm assuming the game changing iPhone?
I'm not really getting your argument. Seems like you're admitting the iPhone defined the market but in the very next breath you're saying that they beat everyone to the market they created? Your argument is circular.
Just admit it...you hate the iPhone?
