I spent some of my teen years in Greensboro, it wasn't the greatest town to be a young punk rocker in, BUT I will say North Carolina is the most racially unbiased state I have ever spent time in. Black folks and white folks get along like nothing. I've spent time in cities all over, even really liberal areas like the pacific north west, nothing compared to NC.
Sure, there are always going to be some racist people no matter where you are, but living in NC I never felt any racial tension at all. If they weren't so close minded about other things Greensboro would have been a really nice place to live.
