From what I know of the .XXX people, I am pretty confident in predicting that they will indeed lobby Congress and try to suggest that they become mandatory. If that doesn't work (and there are already senators who have signed on for that) then they will go to private industries and try to get them to have rules demanding .XXX extensions for adult sites.
The more money the industry people give these guys, the more they'll have to use against the industry. Sadly, I have very little faith this industry will do the right thing. Selfish greed seems to win 99% of the time. We saw that with TGP sites, then with "tube" sites. We'll probably see it again, sadly. I know that I won't contribute to it, but little good that's likely to do in the end. And an already difficult business will get more difficult.
BTW, pay attention to the companies and organizations that are being oddly uncritical of Lawley and .XXX .... some of them made deals with Lawley back in the day, behind our backs.

.xxx will never be a government mandated ghetto for adult sites. they know what the repercussions are.
and people are well aware of who made what deals with who.
smile in their faces and do what you gotta do when you see them.
