The author of "How To Be Happy, Dammit" is suing the wealthy Long Island man who she says wooed her, then left her pregnant - and most unhappy.
Karen Salmansohn accuses married big shot Mitchell Leff of leaving piles of unpaid medical bills after he bankrolled $28,000 in fertility treatments and pledged to start a family with her.
"I may be a self-help expert, but I'm not a psychic," Salmansohn, 49, said. "It was a great surprise that he broke his emotional and financial commitment."
The best-selling author of "How To Succeed In Business Without a Penis" met Leff last August while eating breakfast at Pastis.
Seduced by his poems and love letters, Salmansohn informed him on their second date that she longed to have a baby, she said.
"And he said he wanted a child," the $200-an-hour life coach said.
The romance bloomed quickly, with Leff paying for a trip to Paris and a $10,000 Tiffany engagement ring, according to the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
And it collapsed just as fast, almost as soon as Salmansohn informed him she was pregnant, she claims.
Within a day of her positive home pregnancy test in December, her new love claimed he was "too old" to start a new family and told her to get an abortion, she alleges.
Within weeks, he allegedly cut her off financially, leaving her on the hook for thousands of dollars in renovations to her Manhattan apartment that he had pledged to cover.
"Who goes to a fertility clinic and spends nearly $30,000, then walks away?" Salmansohn said.
She said he promised to pay for a crib, maternity clothes and baby gear.
Then came another bombshell: The 51-year-old father of two never filed for divorce from his wife, even though Salmansohn says he promised to marry her "within 24 hours" of the split being finalized.
"It was a shock on top of a shock on top of a shock," Salmansohn said.
