I did not mean to be rude in my previous post. Personally, I feel like I have already give to David through my higher taxes which go towards public assistance.
Someone posted that public funds are diminished in the case where people earn money. That is true, but many people game the system and do not accurately report their income (in other words, they lie). I have no information to suggest that is the case here.
However, this matter highlights and supports my feelings about giving and charity and public assistance in general. In my opinion, because of the huge numbers of people who lie, cheat, and game the system, virtually all public social programs are inherently fraudulent and call into question all participants.
In my opinion, it is the local churches, local charities, friends, and family who are in the best position to determine if charity is truly deserved. I say kudos to all the generous people on this board who knew David and who donated. That is how it is supposed to work. The government and the taxpayers are better left out.
It is extremely nice and kind of people to donate to his widow. I admire them for this, and I extend my sincere condolences to her.
