Nice, just got a spam e-mail from the folks at Starlight Bucks (mail was from
[email protected]) saying "Congratulations You Won A Free Lifetime Membership". WOW! Doesn't this sound awesome? So of course I clicked on the link in that mail and it took me here:
Free Teen Pass
After entering some bogus e-mail address and a password, this is where I end up:
Just another pree checked x-sell scam? Maybe, but I think this is worse than most I've seen lately. First of all the join button says "Click Here to Verify Your Age". On this whole join page they tell you that they only need your credit card to verify your age. The pre-checked x-sells are directly below the "18 years or older" and "agree to terms and conditions" boxes. They don't contain any sign that this generates costs. There are no stars or any similar hints indicating that you should read further at the bottom of the page for details.
The lines stating that these are 3-day-trials recurring at almost $40 a month are WAY below the join button and not visible without scrolling on a widescreen display. WTF? Really, one of the worst scams I've seen in a long time.
So thanks to the folks at Platinum Bucks, who are obviously behind all this, for damaging the already bad image of adult paysites and adult credit card processing among end customers even more. Too bad that the US doesn't have such strict customer protection laws as we have in Europe, cause stuff like this has been defined as clear fraud by many courts over here already and you'd go to jail for it.
