Hitler didn't burn the Reichstag building down, a nutcase anarchist from the Netherlands did that all on his own. Hitler, much like Bush Junior in 2001, was an astute enough politician to turn that to his advantage.
As for the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the first gunboat attack by the North Vietnamese navy really did happen. It was only the second one that Lyndon Baines Johnson made up out of whole cloth for much the same reasons as I've listed above.
