Remember just a few years back when people thought flash was just a pretty little animation engine? Developers are just now beginning to exploit flash for what it's worth.

The core issue is that Flash is a 3rd-party plug-in. If you really think about it, the browser itself should have all those capabilities. Therein lies the reason why the slow shift has begun.
