well as far as comas - my uncle and aunt got run over by a tractor trailer, my uncle's fault, my aunt died instantly, my uncle was a complete mess, jaws of life, helicoptered out to a trauma center, doctors wanted to pull the plug, he was in a coma for 6 months, nobody had any hope for him - and suddenly one day he opened his eyes, he recognized family, began talking soon after and they quickly began rehabilitation - he spent another few months in a rehabilitation hospital and then home where he lived a very normal life, the only permanent damage was his balance, he walked like a punch drunk boxer but he golfed 18 holes walking a day for the next 10 years.
