If you were threatened by a wanker then most of the time they would not do anything & it was all mouth. However, If it was due to yourself being the wanker & they threatened you to shut up as it was yourself continuously being a tosser, I would have suggested they were advising you to shut up for the regret of the future commitments they may have to make.
For the silent or quiet approach to say nothing & do something about it would not sort anything out or would not be a worry neither as it would be too late. This is not my style as I would never really want to hurt anyone. I am happy to deal with people in the nice mannor first.
