I'm pretty sure he's talking about for hire camera guys. But I thought I'd be a smartass and toss my shit in. heh-heh
I can tell those of you who don't know how things work...The biggest companies like Brazzers, Naughty America, etc. don't buy content. They have an in-house crew. A vid cam guy/director/producer and a still camera guy, and the assorted monkeys that do the grunt work (why on earth they spend money on a PM and a "lighting and sound guy" is beyond me...in reality ONE person can take the stills and do vid and no need for the extra guys or girls) And that in-house crew shoots 3 to 4 scenes a day 5 days a week and they are on salary. And that salary ain't nowhere near 10 grand a month.
Then there are guys like Jim Gunn out there shooting content. I have no idea what he makes or who his clients are so I don't presume to speak for him. I'm sure times are tougher now than before piracy happened. If for nothing else because there aren't as many clients now with the budgets they had before.
Does he make ten grand a month at this moment in time? I don't know. In his business maintaining a steady income is tough. It's a buyers market right now. But for all I know he just might be making a lot more than that. He's been around a while. And the longer you're around, the more tricks you learn to survive.
