The internet and mass communication.
I remember growing up, a friend moving, and us trying to keep in contact - via US Mail. We both moved a lot, and we would loose contact with each other all the time - sometimes for years.
These days that will never happen. My daughter is nine, has her own cell phone and her own email account. (She's even set up her own blog.) 7am in the morning, first thing, texts start rolling in from her friends. We moved from Phoenix four years ago, she was only five at the time, and she was able to track down her old friend's contact info online and they've kept in touch.
The current generation will not know what it's like not to have the Internet at their fingers - email, texts, gps, and any piece of information anyone needs to know. It's amazing really.
