One "expert" in containment.
I heard an "expert" in containment interviewed this morning that claimed the rig should have been allowed to burn as it would still be burning off much of the oil that is now being pumped into the ocean. He also said that it was the firefighting boats that so heavily flooded the rig that caused it to sink. Maybe truth...maybe not...but both points do have some logic when one thinks about it.
He also stated that atempting to burn the oil at sea would have little affect and attempts to skim would have little affect. He went on to say that an attempt to seal it with underwater vehicles would fail. He stated that the only viable way to seal it off would be to put in place another rig and slant drill into the shaft of the desytroyed rig and pump material into it to seal it off. He said this would take a minimum of three months or longer.
