ANY doctor would lose their license for flat lining or even doing a paper based on research involving flat lining someone intentionally, not to mention go to jail, wouldn't matter how much 'research' was involved.. It's the US not Germany in the 40's... Just because you consent to it doesn't make it fucking legal... (kivorkian?)
Not only would your life insurance be void, you would probably be considered uninsurable if they ever got wind of you attempting stuff like that, which they always seem to find out eventually anyway when claims are involved.
