Well, as a teenager, I used to pick cantaloupe in Yuma during the season and it paid above than minimum wage in those days, I think I was making around 8:50 an hour...not bad for summer break work. I am sure if someone needs money and has to feed their families or what ever, they will do the work.
And yes, it is a hot hard job, but people will do it for a fare wage. Farmers and contractors have grown accustom to paying slave wages so their profit margins are greater. I for one am glad to see contractors finally going to get nailed for hiring illegals.
We run a mainstream biz and it is hard to compete when I have to pay a legal citizen good wages and contractor down the way pays nothing and he also is not paying taxes on the people he hires. All of this effects many businesses down the line and makes it very hard if not impossible to compete in the business arena.
That too is going to come to an end......very soon
