Authenticity
Shortly after the calls became popular, a topic on the ebaumsworld message board, was made in hopes of finding Bergis's number so that fans could make their own prank calls. When internet people searches found no one named "R Burgess" or "R Bergis" listed, some speculated that he was not a real person. Soon innacuracies in the phone calls were pointed out. For example, in the "Gay Day" call, Bergis suggests that the two callers go talk to "Mayor Bright" if they wanted to have a Gay Day in Greenville. After searching the history of Greenville, it was made apparent that there was never a "Mayor Bright" in the city, nor anywhere near Mississippi. Based on these most ebaumsworld members came to the consensus that Mr. Bergis is not real, but rather what the radio station refers to as "an aspiring actor named Steven."[1]
