Jane, my point earlier is that people are going to do what they want to no matter what the govt. says or does.
People have been smoking pot, snorting coke, and everything else for a looooonnnnnnngggg time. And they are going to do it no matter what some old men in Washington D.C. decide for us.
I personally don't think it's the governments place to tell me I can't snort a line of coke on a Friday night. I'm a grown man.
But the point is...people are already high and drunk and driving around. That will NEVER change no matter how many laws they make against it. Matter of fact, the U.S. "war on drugs" was started by Nixon to stop the "hippies" from their "decadent lifestyle"
And guess what? MORE people than ever before are doing drugs.
So if we are already doing more recreational drugs than any other country in the world irregardless of what our corrupt govt. tries to do...Then why not just make it legal, stop the violence and all those people getting killed and tax it?
I left home at 17 and I don't need a goddamn govt. trying to be my "daddy" and tell me how to live my life. And now the chickens are coming home to roost in the form of border violence. End the war on drugs and you end the border violence. It's really that simple.
Just google up "Prohibition" and see what happened with alcohol and all the violence...and how it ENDED instantly when alcohol was legalized. This ain't brain surgery, and it doesn't require us to keep making MORE fucked up laws and it doesn't require us to start acting like Nazi's or Stalin-style Soviets either.
Just give the citizens of the United States the freedoms that we are SUPPOSED to have and have the govt. stop trying to play "gotcha" at every damn corner and that "problem" on the border is over.
