Maybe that's an affliction of the cheaper ones? Wireless mics are used on talk shows and reality shows all the time. Very few problems with hiss/interferance there.
There's definitely a knack to knowing how to properly use them, as with anything else in shooting any sort of production.

Well yes, boom mics would be great, but I wasn't going to mention them because it may be way too much to expect for most of these "have vidcam, will shoot" shooters out there to invest in them or even have the first clue about how to use them.
