I'm two weeks from finishing P90X (this is my second attempt - did the first two phases last year before summer and beach volleyball started) and have been swapping yoga and kempo sometimes for Insanity since week five and have been doubling almost every day with Insanity for the last few weeks. (I'm only doing that because 90 day pics are coming up and I'm trying to finish strong. It's not because I've gone insane

).
I would say Insanity is great for overall conditioning. If you're just looking for that, you don't need any weights and it's just about putting the time in. You just need to be humble because they're tough. Like really, really tough. I haven't finished a workout without big breaks. What it lacks is the focus on strength training.
P90X at least gives you a terrific overall workout. You have variety, instruction, and as long as you have the equipment, you can build a solid body without paying huge amounts for a trainer. I think that's the big difference. The average person would need a trainer in order to put a workout that's that comprehensive together.
For me, combining the two are where it's at. I've seen great progress so far. As a case in point, I did chest, shoulders and tris this morning. This workout started in week five and I was able to do a total of 52 pushups by then. Today I was able to do 91. Once the 90 days are over, though, I'm putting yoga back in the mix. I hate it. It's the hardest workout IMO. For that reason alone, I need to do more of it.
