and yes, it is still a federal crime to possess, cultivate, traffic etc cannabis. but at least in my state, you can get a card for 70 bucks a year and go to any of the 1000s of dispensaries that have popped up in the last couple years. you can grow it, sell it, smoke it legally. some localities have tried to set local ordinances, but those don't hold up in court, because the law (in effect since the mid 90s) says nothing about limits.
if a cop busted me for having weed in my car today, i would win the case without a fight. and more states are doing this all the time.
and why not, really? why is it cool to have liquor and cigarettes freely available -like - EVERYWHERE but for some reason this plant is considered as dangerous as heroin or cocaine? that's preposterous.

im not debating if weed is a big deal or not, I am explaining why a police officer thinks it is (because of our laws) whether you agree with it or not. Im guessing you need a medical reason to have weed which in that case it would be legal and fine. What is being talked about here is people doing it illegally.
let me guess you a weed smoker ?
