I lean a little bit towards FaceBook on this. I'm glad they throttled back the messaging for those games, it did take away from the FaceBook experience for alot of people, myself included.

I actually like some of the silly little games they have, but I don't like spam for anything so up in my grill. I also think that without the use of Facebook's platform to launch and solicit for their games / apps- with people making the jump and leaving myspace behind consistantly for at least the last 2 years- whatever fee FB wants to take they should accept.

Facebook's error was not trying to better monitize the traffic to these games years ago. Trying to put the clamp down now the games have enough of a following where they have the chance to exist on their own.

Zynga has a little play room since FB waited so long and they've already been gathering consumer data, but if they pull the plug they will be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

If I were them I would shut up, pay the 30% but trash any exclusivity deals. They need to keep their eyes peeled for who will be the next big thing in the social space and cut a sweetheart deal with them early in the game.
