Just because it's cheap doesn't invalidate my point of the infrastructure being a joke; in fact it supports it.

I'd never seen a dead body that wasn't a relative at a funeral before Thailand. In the same week I seen a twisted motorbike driver and a pickup truck in flames outside Don Muang airport. Look at reports during Songkran, a lot of Thais (and foreigners) think it's ok to drive drunk and during this holiday week the accident rate jumps to the thousands with tens sometimes hundreds dead.
If you haven't seen a beggar in Bangkok you've never been or you've been chauffeured everywhere.
