You seem to have missed the other 100 threads about this... where we pretty much decided as a group that this is fair (the majority anyway)... see many of us here do a lot of traveling and we're used to being asked to present out passports... it happens, a LOT... and many times for no other reason than we don't look native...
So I'm not too sure why this is any different. ESPECIALLY since we have a massive illegal immigrant issue in that state.
