That picture is just a trick. The screen sizes are at least about the same, notice the phones held on different heights.
plus the iphones icons expand out to the borders of where the icon can go while the android generally has normal windows type icons that are not all squares. They look like they take up about the same size in space I think, iphone a little larger though, that appears to be true i guess.
