We did something similar in my physics class where we were challenged to work out how to hit the teacher with a water balloon launched from one of those 3 person sling shot things from something like 100 yards away.
It got the WHOLE class working on it because the guy was a massive prick, we came within a couple feet but couldn't hit him due to wind and whatnot.
But if you make it something the kids can relate to or give them a reward for it, they'll do it.
