There are some good hosts mentioned in this thread. We have server with Amerinoc
and love their fast support. I've been emailing with the head tech at Webair, Sagi, this
morning. He knows his stuff and I'm sure that now that he's on the case we can work
out how to take care of our mutual clients. Good people to work with.
When it comes to daily backups, Alphared used to be thought to be a good host. As were
most of the hosts whose racks were destroyed in the fire at The Planet. That fire took out
9,000 servers, mostly run by good companies. A lot of "good" hosts have simply gone away
when they couldn't pay their $100,000 / month bandwidth bill. For backup to really do it's job,
it needs to be off site. In needs to be in a different datacenter so the fire doesn't destroy the
backup as well as the main server. It needs to be run by a different company so that when your
host is raided by law enforcement like Alphared was, or they simply get upside down financially,
your backup doesn't disappear with them. Check out Clonebox, for example:
