I knew a dude like that at the office I used to work in. Let's call him Todd. He was butt ugly, but a charmer. Whenever a new girl started work, he would instantly make friends with her, and become lunch buddies. He had a posse of about 5 that he would go to lunch with every day, but never make any kind of move. He was FOG(Friend of Girls). It was kind of pathetic to watch -- the guy was desperate to be seen with petty girls, and would do anything to make sure he was seen with them as much as possible.
One night there was a company get together at a bar, and one of his posse girls was all over me the entire night. I had maybe spoken about 10 words to her at the office before this, but he had been taking her to lunch for 6 months and never made his move. When I was cupping her ass by the pool table, I looked over and saw Todd looking pretty depressed.
the bottom line is, a girl knows if she's going to have sex with you within 10 seconds of meeting you. If the answer in her head is "yes", then it's your situation to mess up. If the answer is "no", then theres not much that's going to change that -- especially if you try to be her friend for months, so you can sneak up on her.
