I came across another bear later, but he was even closer (like 10' away) and I did not really feel comfortable putting the kickstand down then trying to get my camera out. He was eating.

Thanks. Actually, I used the standard 18-55 all day until I ran into the first bear. In that case I did feel comfortable stopping and getting the camera out. However, after the first couple of shots I went up the road a piece, and parked the bike. Then I changed lenses and went back to get some more shots of him. I went ahead and left it on for the duration of the journey.
