Whatever the number is it's high, much higher than it was 5 years ago. What this means to me is that soccer in the US is in fact growing a lot of grassroots depth, and out of all those millions of kids now playing the US is going to have stronger and stronger teams in future.

kids have always played soccer, it's a cheap sport and even the worst kid can play it. It's also super boring to watch most of the time. (just like basketball, which is only good for the last 3-4 mins if the game is close)
