Pangea, the reason the Mayans, the Sumerians and other ancient cultures had similar stories is because the continents were at one point whole. Columbus didn't discover America because those in the know knew there were these other continents but kept it from the masses. You know like how they would toss people in jail in Europe if they said anything other than the World was flat. Well those in control knew of course the World wasn't flat just as much as they knew of all of the other continents. They told the masses this to keep them from doing a little discovering of their own. They believed if they went too far they would fall off the face of the Earth.
