You'd be surprised to find out how many conservatives back marijuana legalization. The CONSERVATIVE arguments for marijuana legalization, as outline by National Review founder William F. Buckley are:
* The negative health aspects of illegal drug use stem mostly from the fact that it is illegal (varying dosages, no quality control, etc)
* While the health concerns of illicit drugs are hyped by drug warriors, the cost to the US bureaucratic integrity are staggering--corruption, weakened institutions, conflicts of interest
* The weakness of the philosophical reasons behind drawing the arbitrary lines between honor, morality, and legality that is present in drug prohibition
