Well speaking for myself, I tend to blind link to join pages less often and sometimes I change it up and see if ratios go up if I get the surfer to the join page faster so I add some blind join page links.

So Site "A" could have every thumb on his tour linked to the join page creating 100 blind links to the join page guaranteeing 75% of your uniques will hit the join page.

Site "B" could have a clean site where the only things that are linked to the join page are actuall text/graphics labeled as "Click here to join" so you end up with 10% or less of your uniques hitting the join page.
