Quoted for truth. Murder - no big deal, he gets away with that. Molesting kids? Stars and
priests are allowed to do that. But breaking in to someone else's place to get "your" stuff
gets you prison, even if you are a celebrity.
That said (again), we don't do just server security, but occasionally take care of the bad guys
in brick and mortar land too. We serve arrest warrants and other stuff that involves running
around wearing a bullet proof vest and handcuffs. That experience has taught me that there
are often legal ways around it to get what you need. For example, if the box is paid monthly,
rather than having been purchased outright, the host may have a right to access it. Then it's
a matter of getting the host to want to help you. Often, you can get the "opponent" to help you
before they know what they are doing. Always, always, always, though make sure you have
the moral high ground 100%, without any "your side of story" stuff. If you had a contract with
the programmer and HE TINKS you didn't live up to your end, you need to work it out with him.
If for any reason anybody might think the other guy is right, talk to him and work it out. Don't
do anything that could embarrass you later.
PS - My ex-wife also went to jail for going into "her" house to get her stuff - she had moved out,
so legally it was her husband's house. Jail for her.
