I build stores on generic keyword .com product domains powered by Amazon, Ebay, Shopping, Cj.com etc... and some do have adsense as well. Some do great and others only make $4-$5 a month in profit. Take that $5 a month in profit on the low ones and multiply by 12 months though and you have $60 a year profit after the renewal fee. Multiply $60 a year in profit by 1,000+ domains and for each batch of 1000 that can make $5 a month you're looking at 60k a year. The end goal is domain sales as all the domains are strong and .com.
The purpose of the stores for me is not only earnings but more of they rank in google better than a standard parked page so you have a good domain, good rank which ultimately leads to a domain sale where a standard parked page will have a hard time being found in google. After a year is up I may sell off the weak earning stores that don't pay their own way and keep the strong earning stores and rinse and repeat and after a few years of flushing through batches of domains you will have hundreds or thousands that are all profitable.
The key for me is to get each domain I own to achieve maximum earnings which may come from domain parking, partnerships, mild development and full scale development as the more they earn the less I have to pull out of my pocket for renewals which means if they are profitable I can be patient on waiting for the right price to sell them. You can name quite a few categories of mainstream products and I probably have 1 or more stores up for most of them. Over the next few months I intend to step my game up and buy even stronger domains then I currently have acquired since 2002 as with this economy if you have cash on hand it's a good time to strike.
