i said "seed density" moron
i didn't say i was going to seed it 10,652 times
the seed density is the number of available pieces, based on the least available piece.
it represents the number of redundant backup for the content you have.

How many times are you going to watch and then re-watch your favorite episode of "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" anyway?

none
but dr who "blink" tons.
it the episode i show friends every time i want to convince them to start tuning into the show.

I'm not backpeddling on anything. Nobody EVER needed bit torrents in all of history to have copies of something. Sure it's a nice CONVENIENT thing for people with broadband internet (most folks) to use for some things.
But as far as what you are claiming you do...save your favorite television shows...there are FAR more convenient ways to do that. Ever heard of TIVO or a DVR?
And no, you don't need INFINITE storage space either. For what? Season 3 of the "Mr. Ed" show?
|
the by product of infinite storage and recording everything is that i can see shows i didn't realize i would like when they first aired
for example, i only found out about supernatural in the 5th season
i was watching big bang theory episode where sheldon was insulting babylon 5 and it resulted in a conversation with my friends about not having shows that do self contained stories any more (4 year arc of babylon 5 was one sell contained story, where the end was always clearly defined)
and one of my friends mentioned i should check out supernatuarl because that what they were doing.
i downloaded and watched everything before, got caught up and started watching the last season on tv.
both the copyright holder and i benefited from that situation, they got a view who would never have jumped into the show, and i got to understand the entire context of the show.
really so tell me how i could have jumped into the middle of supernatural using the tivo.
the swarm allows me to do that
i have a legal right to do that because i paid for the show when i paid my cable bill
just because they did a lousy job of advertising it to me, doesn't mean i should miss the right to watch a show i paid for.

We aren't trying to take away anything. You CAN make copies of any goddamn thing you want for YOURSELF. But when you make copies in a public place that is covered in pre-paid advertising spots that generate income from the presence of the content itself...that is WRONG.
I'm sorry that you are too fucked up in the head to see that.

i love this arguement so it ok for tivo to make money from selling their device, but a web based service that provides the exact same functionality should not be allowed to make money.

btw i still noticed that you have not given me permission to charge you 10,000 times as much as your competitor for the solution.
