That's usually where it ends, unless there is no one behind me. Then I'll usually ask how busy its been or something. Nine times out of ten, we'll carry a conversation until they're done ringing me through. I can multitask, however, so I don't stop doing everything while I'm talking.
If people are behind me, I won't start a conversation, and most of the time, the cashier won't start one either.
