Usually DDOS done with botnets. So unless you actually discovered the central node where the bots receive command and report (which is impossible for someone like barefootsies), you wouldn't be able to tell the exact origin of attack because you would be flooded from a wide range of IPs.
These days, there are more sophisticated ways of running DDOS. Twitter is often used to direct and control botnets (parse your twitters). Some even have distributed command centers, making it more difficult to take out the botnet.
IF one was to have done DDOS, it makes perfect sense to shift the blame game on to third world countries where US jurisdiction won't apply. Of course the victim thinks other wise
But assume the origin of attack WAS from ukraine. Don't you think DOJ and FTC have bigger cases to worry about then a shitty porn site getting DDOS ?
