FYI .. there are a couple of flaws in your procedure for removing the Antivirus 2010 malware.
This is a pretty common virus and most AntiVirus Software will protect you from it as long as you don't do anything other than click the X in the uper right hand corner. No need to unplug your PC. If you got infected on contact it would be too late anyway. Electrons move way faster than you do.
You should not use sytem restore to try and fix an infected computer ... odds are that the restore files are in fected too. And if any of your word or excel or other data files get infected doing a system restore won't do jack.
You are correct in rebooting in safe mode though.
The correct prcedure for removing this or any other virus from you computer is as follows:
1. Reboot in SAFE mode without networking (as you said).
2. TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE .. thus deleting all restore points (you do this to keep your sytem from being reinfected by the restore files).
3. Scan for viruses using what ever antivirus tool you use ... There are quite a few good ones out there and a couple of the best ones are free. You mentioned Malware Bytes and I would like to ad AntiVir (96% detection and removal rate for FREE only bested by Kaspersky which is not free).
4. If that fails to do the trick go to any one of the big boy antivirus maker's website and odds are they have a removal tool. Sometimes they may not have tool they may just have instructions. Just keep checking on other Antivirus manufators website's until you find one. If you can not find a tool and you decide to do a manual removal and you are not a computer geek with experience doing this I would suggest that you change you mind.
If you are thinking but I read all the instructions how hard could it be? ... Let me put it to you this way. It would be akin to a MED student saying, "Ok I read the book ... now somebody hand me a scapel".
