to me the main reason Obama has this on his shoulders is that he has promised immigration reform and has yet to deliver and doesn't seem like it is even on the table. If he came out and said, "Look, we are focusing on the economy and getting people back to work first, then we will work on immigration." I think people would be more open to him. Where he has troubles is that he hasn't delivered and given no signs of delivering and then when a state decides to act on their own he sues to stop them.
If you are going to tell someone they can't use their solution, you should have a solution they can use ready to go.
