Yesterday, I did 30 minutes on the machine and it was set with resistance, etc and I burned 458 calories. That's doing on average 190 strides/minute and I weigh 160 lbs. So 500 on cardio is definitely a good figure for you.
And as for biking, I just love doing it. Nothing like a nice, long bike ride with some riding through the desert landscapes. So while it does burn a heck of a lot less than running, I prefer it more.
