PeeWee Herman Is Making A Comeback

Quote:
When Judd Apatow took Leslie Mann to see The Pee Wee Herman Show in LA last year, she apparently laughed harder than he had ever seen her do before. This, according to Herman himself, is why Apatow is producing the new Pee Wee picture.

This comes from a New York Times interview with Paul Reubens, the man behind the manchild. It’s an interesting, if brief, piece in which we also learn a little of what sort of movie the two are planning together.

Apatow read two screenplays Reubens had already been working on, but said instead, “He was more interested in something closer, in the same vein and the same genre, as Big Adventure… a reality-based world and a linear road movie.”

Though, on the one hand, “It’s at such an early stage right now that there still exists the possibility that this could turn into the Playhouse movie.”

Even at this early stage Reubens says, “We’ve had some very interesting inquiries already for gigantic superstars.” If he means literally what he’s said, then the inquiries have been coming in rather than going out, and it’s the stars looking to be in the film, not the filmmakers looking to populate it.
